Angel's Landing Trail, Zion National Park, Utah

Today we hiked a little over 6 miles, 4 of which were on a trail called Angel's Landing. One of the pictures shows the view from close to the top (you can see the river way down below). The last half mile was climbing on a big cliff, practically hanging by chains, no thank you. Meldon was ready to go to the top but not me. You can see my red face in one of the pictures. It was a steep 2 mile hike but it was fun. Enjoy the pictures.

Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

Today we drove about 1 1/2 hours up to Bryce Canyon National Park. We hiked about 5 miles to include a 2.9 mile hike on the Navajo Trail and the Queen's Garden Trail. The scenery today was by far, the best we've seen on our hikes to date. The pictures can't begin to do this park justice but it's the best we can do on this blog. We took almost 300 pictures of Bryce Canyon and here are 10 of them.

Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah, Cont...

We had to add the picture of the strange cloud we saw. This was really how it looked, no touch-ups.

Red Canyon, Dixie National Forest, Utah

We drove though the Dixie National Forest on the way to Bryce Canyon.

Watchman Trail, Zion National Park, Utah

Today we hiked 6.5 miles, including the Watchman Trail here in the park, and saw a couple of condors along the way. We took pictures from the canyon trail above the campground and pointed out our spot in the pictures. If you click on the pictures they will get bigger and you can see the arrows pointing out the rv site.

Kolob Terrace,Zion National Park, Utah

Kolob Terrace was a middle section of Zion National Park which included a reservoir. We drove about twenty miles up the mountains to over 8000 feet and we were about 1 mile from the reservoir when we got stopped by snow over the road again! Once again we saw some beautiful scenery so it was well worth the trip.

Kolob Canyons, Zion National Park, Utah

We stopped by the northern most part of Zion Park today at the Kolob Canyons. We drove to the top and hiked out a half mile to the overlook. These are the pictures from there.

Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah

Today we attempted to drive up to Cedar Breaks National Monument but as you can see in the pictures, the snow was over the road and we couldn't go the last four miles into the park. Usually the road opens by late May so we were not surprised. We did, however, see some beautiful scenery. We were at an elevation of 9,920 feet which is the highest we have gone so far, and the temperature there was 41 degrees. We were a bit under-dressed. Here are the pictures.

Zion National Park, Utah

Well we finally made it to Zion National Park. Today was our first full day here. We caught a shuttle bus and rode up to the north end of the park. From there we did a 2 mile hike up the river and then walked down to our next trailhead for the Emerald trails and Kayenta trail. At the end of the day we had hiked approximately 13 miles and seen the northern half of the park. Here are some pictures of the day.

Pipe Springs National Monument, Arizona

This was our last stop on the way to Zion. This property was a 1870's house/fort and farm taken over by the mormons. Sorry about the blurry spot. It's my fingerprint. I cleaned it off before the next set of pictures.
