Fort Morgan, National Historic Site, Gulf Shores, AL

Here are some pictures of the fort and the lighthouse which is just off the shore. The lighthouse is no longer functioning, the glass top - globe is now at the museum on the fort. There was also a long wall around much of the fort. We walked along the wall for about a mile.

Today we drove down to Gulf Shores, Alabama and toured Fort Morgan. This fort was built in the early 1800's and was occupied off and on until after World War II. Now it is a National Historic Site. From this fort you can also see over a dozen offshore oil rigs.

National Museum of Naval Aviation, Pensacola NAS, FL

The weather was windy and cool today so we spent the afternoon indoors at the aviation museum on the Navy base. This museum has amazing aircraft displays, earliest planes to present day, and is a must see location for anyone visiting the area. There's also an IMAX theater in the museum, which we went to today, and it has 4 different shows playing at different hours through the day.

Gulf Islands National Seashore, Pensacola, FL

Today we hiked around the National Seashore. We probably hiked about 4 miles, alot of it in the sand so tonight our legs are sore. It's really not as cold as it looked, it was about 60 degrees, but I wasn't taking any chances in case it got windy. I suppose I was a bit overdressed. There is alot of spanish moss on the trees and lots of palm plants. It was a nice hike.

Just took a drive around the area today, and did a little window shopping while taking our walk.

We decided to take a down day on the Naval Base today. We took a walk down to the bay and took a few photos. The weather was nice and the temperature got up to 72 degrees.
