Deadwood, South Dakota

We stopped by the town of Deadwood today on our way home from Presidents Park. This town is a National Historic Landmark, the whole town!
This is where Wild Bill Hickcock and Calamity Jane were buried. The town has a row of casinos which you can see in a couple of these pictures. They are built in the old restored buildings. We had to try out a few and won almost $200. It was alot of fun.

We took a drive though the Badlands today. The temperature today was 103 degrees so we decided not to hike around.

Some of them were: prisoner of war camp, dog training camp, horse remount station, airborne training, indian wars fort, olympic training, civilian conservation corp camp, USDA cattle research station and others. This little museum had photos from most of these different periods. These are a few.

Toadstool Geological Park, Oglala National Grasslands, Nebraska

We hiked around through Toadstool Park today. It looks like a miniature Badlands. The parks beauty is a consequence of serious erosion, much like the Badlands. It causes formations which look like toadstools because the sandstone on the top doesn't wear as quickly as the dirt underneasth it. I'm guessing that is how it got it's (Toadstool) name.
