Grand Canyon National Park / Bright Angel Trail, AZ

We hiked 3 miles in the canyon today on the Bright Angel Trail. The temperature got up to 60 degrees with high winds and wind gusts up to 47 mph. The winds weren't as bad as we hiked further into the canyon.

Montezuma Castle National Monument, AZ

28 Mar 2009 - This national monument is about 50 miles south of Flagstaff, AZ. It was a convenient stop on our drive north, and well worth it , too. Montezuma Castle is a five story, 20 room structure built in the early 1100s. It was built in the cliff recess 100

feet above the valley floor. In one of the photos is a small scale model of the cliff dwelling that shows what the interior looked like.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, AZ

26 Mar 2009, we took a 5+ mile hike around the base. This air base also serves as a military aircraft storage facility, also known as the "bone yard". There are, according to one source, a few thousand aircraft stored here. They range in size from the heavy bombers down to the fighter jets. It's really quite a sight to see.

The RV park is located just across the street from the bone yard.

Sonoran Desert Museum, AZ

Today we visited the Sonoran Desert Museum. This place included an exhibit of local minerals and stones, caves, local animals, birds, plants and cactus. This was a great place to see, a nice change from the regular zoos. By the way, the mountain lion in the picture with me is a real live one!
