Fossil Butte National Monument, Wyoming

We drove over to Fossil Butte today. It's about 140 miles from where we are staying. We tried to get over there yesterday but the roads were closed due to snow, so we took a more southern route today. Most of the fossils are in display cases in the visitor center and the majority of them are water creatures. During the summer the rangers and students dig for fossils. We hiked a 3 mile trail up to where the current dig is going on. We found a fossil, part of a fish, you can see it in the last picture. (the spine of the fish runs along the bottom and you can see a fin at the end of it.) We took a picture and left it in the park. It's agaist the law to take anything out of the park. But we were very proud of ourselves for finding one and Meldon was very surprised that I didn't take it home with me.
