Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Florissant, CO

I was under the mistaken belief that we would see fossils at this park. The only fossils there are to see are in the visitor center in a drawer. The actual attractions at this park were the huge petrified tree stumps. The ones that are by themselves are redwoods and the picture with the three stumps together are sequoias. The largest redwood petrified stump in the picture with Meldon is over 12 feet tall and 38 feet in diameter and was estimated to be over 750 years old when it was covered with volcanic mud.
