Biosphere 2, AZ

We took a tour of the Biosphere today which is just north of Tucson. It took about 6 years to build this place and about 500 workers. In 1991, eight people were locked in for a two year stay. They came out after 2 years and 20 minutes. They had animals in there with them. They ate meat once a week and grew the rest of their food. Their oxygen had to be subsidized 3 times during this time and one of the girls had to come out due to losing part of a finger in an accident. But other than that, they lived in there together without outside assistance. I could do that. They each had a little apartment, two story, living room downstairs and a bedroom upstairs. They shared a kitchen and a game room. There were tunnels underground which connected all the spaces. There is an ocean which has a wave machine and holds approximately 1 million gallons of salt water. There is a rain forest and different desert rooms. It was very cool.
